The Vanecam system controls the intake and exhaust camshaft and thus creates the optimal valve actuation times for every operating state of the engine. Idling quality, transient response behavior, maximum torque at low rotation speeds, maximum engine power and internal engine exhaust gas recirculation are actively optimized by using Vanecam phasers. The system is suitable for both cars and commercial vehicles.

The advantages of the Vanecam phaser:

  1. Reduction of CO2 emissions
  2. Reduction of exhaust gases
  3. Significant reduction in fuel consumption
  4. Optimization of torque characteristics

What makes Vanecam so efficient?

Structure and function

The Vanecam phaser is located on the sprocket of the timing drive. A moveable rotor is placed inside the phaser and this rotor is fixed to the camshaft. Oil Pressure from the engine oil circulation system is applied to the rotor, which moves the camshaft relative to the crankshaft.

Advantages of the phaser: the movement is continuously variable thanks to the Vanecam concept, in accordance with the load and speed of rotation.

The smart difference

Characteristics and details

The effective sealing of the Vanecam phaser is distinctive. The concept is based on the avoidance of having to add sealing elements to reduce internal leakage. The seals commonly used must also be pressed against the housing by springs and generate higher mechanical friction directly. On the contrary, Vanecam phasers provide spontaneous response behavior, high adjustment speeds, very good control quality and low oil consumption.

Flexible design

Production options for Vanecam

In order to save weight and reduce the mass moment of inertia, Hilite offers optional lightweight construction concepts made of aluminum. A special aluminum material and a specific manufacturing process create the load-bearing capacity and wear protection for the sprockets. Depending on design, a 50% reduction in weight can be achieved in comparison to the steel phaser.
